Assertive Discipline

The college has introduced a range of positive measures to make sure that students are able to enjoy their learning. The following is a set of expectations for the classroom that help students to do just that.

Ground Rules

  1. Arrive on time, ready to learn
  2. Be fully equipped for every lesson
  3. Follow instructions straight away
  4. Listen to the person who is meant to be talking
  5. Respect everyone by keeping hands, feet and unkind words to yourself

One of the most important aims of the college is to make sure that positive behaviour is rewarded. Class teachers are keen to reward effort and achievement. However, to ensure that the vast majority of hardworking students are able to get on with their studies, teachers will deal with poor behaviour using the following four steps:

Step 1 - Teacher gives FORMAL verbal warning

Step 2 - Movement within the teaching area

Step 3 - Last to leave - 1 minute detention

Step 4 - Removal to sector area (completion of IRS by subject teacher, department action and phone call home by subject leader - recorded separately on system)
